February 23, 2006

Hickory, NC--Frye Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce it will host its 6th annual asthma day camp for children June 12-16, 2006. Camp Air Adventure is open to 25 children ages 8-12 and will be held at the Catawba Science Center located at 243 3rd Ave. NE, Hickory.

The camp is designed to provide a week of fun activities while teaching children how to manage their asthma, identify triggers of an asthma episode, and how to properly take their daily medications.

Camp Air Adventure also provides an opportunity for the children to meet other children with asthma and promotes self-confidence and independence, while enhancing each child’s physical, social, intellectual and emotional growth.

The camp’s medical staff includes a medical director, nurses and respiratory therapists. Leaders and activity specialists complete the staff which provides campers with the opportunity to participate in activities such as arts and science, swimming, music and outdoor activities.

Camp Air Adventure is administered by Frye Regional Medical Center in collaboration with the American Lung Association of North Carolina. Registration is requested by April 28 to guarantee a space at camp. For more information please call 828-315-5021.
