Frye makes donation to JDRF in name of Gaye Barnett to celebrate National Nurses Week and National Hospital & Healthcare Week
Hickory, N.C. –As a part of the National Nurses Week and National Hospital and Healthcare Week celebration, held May 6 through May 13, Frye Regional Medical Center and the Tenet Healthcare Foundation are honoring Assistant Nurse Manager of Pediatrics Gaye Barnett, RN, BSN, CDE with $500 to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
“Choosing one outstanding employee at Frye wasn’t easy,” said Frye President and CEO Dennis Bruns. “However, Gaye’s dedication and commitment to her patients, as well has her exceptional skills in nursing, could not go unnoticed. She has a track record of going above and beyond.”
Having served as a pediatric nurse at Frye since 1975, Barnett is a Certified Diabetes Educator and coordinates and facilitates Frye’s monthly “Young People’s Diabetes Support Group.” She is also a Certified Pump Trainer.
Barnett assists and participates at Camp Kudos, a camp for diabetic children and teens, in Charlotte, promotes the annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation walk, and coordinates the pediatric portion of the annual Diabetes Health Fair at the Wellness Center.
Because of her passion in helping diabetic children and teens, the JDRF was a natural choice for Barnett to select to receive the $500 grant.
As part of the celebration of National Nurses Week and National Hospital and Healthcare Week, the Tenet Healthcare Foundation will distribute approximately $34,000 in donations on behalf of employees at Tenet hospitals across the country.
This week is a time to say “thank you” to all of the health care professionals who have dedicated their lives to care for our community. These are the people who care for you in the emergency room, hold your hand after surgery and hand you your newborn baby. To them work is not merely a job; it is a calling to serve and care for people. Please take the time this week, and all weeks to show your appreciation for all that they do.
