HICKORY, N.C.- Staff physicians and community leaders gathered to mark the opening of Frye Regional Medical Center’s new Wellness and Education Center on June 14. The facility houses the hospital’s Diabetes Self-Management Care program, the Frye Perinatal Education program, and various community wellness classes. It is located at 255 10th Ave. NE, Hickory, behind Yesterday’s and across from Café 2 forty 2.
Frye President and CEO Denny Bruns offered opening remarks at the celebration, and featured speakers included Frye’s Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology Anita C. Montes, MD; Frye’s Administrative Director of Outpatient Services Eddie Salyards; and Hickory Mayor Rudy Wright. The invocation was given by Chaplain Robert Ford, Frye’s director of pastoral care.
Frye’s Center for Diabetes Self-Management Care offers a variety of educational opportunities and services for the diabetic patient, including insulin pump therapy, medical nutrition therapy, and a variety of support groups for both children and adults. A physician referral is required for all patients attending classes.
The Center’s hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. They are open Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. For more information, call Linda W. Johnson, RN, CDE at (828) 322-6699.
Frye’s Perinatal Education program offers a variety of classes to assist new families with their upcoming birth experience. Breastfeeding support groups, prepared childbirth classes and pre- and post-natal exercise classes are now located at the new Wellness and Education Center.
