The growing emphasis within the pharmacy department is to provide contemporary pharmacy services to impact favorably on patient care. The pharmacy department provides clinical services with a group of highly trained and dedicated pharmacists that work collectively to provide the patients of Frye with the clinical programs necessary to maximize sound patient care. Specific activities include a prospective influence on physician prescribing, drug therapy monitoring, verification and documentation of drug allergies, pharmacokinetic evaluations and dosing, adverse drug reaction monitoring, reporting, and medication error prevention. Additionally, drug information, inservice education, and the facilitation of safe use of investigational drugs are provided to the medical and nursing staffs. Various cost containment initiatives are vigorously pursued. The department supports drug use evaluation measures along with the highly sought-after support in the development and implementation of drug protocols. Attention is placed to reduce waste of expensive drugs by proactive dosage calculations and drug preparation. Interventions on costly biotechnology drugs are pursued to ensure appropriate use. These dedicated pharmacists also serve in a preceptor role for PharmD students. In order to ensure the pharmacy department maximizes their ability to provide these clinical services, we employee a number of highly trained pharmacy technicians. Certification through a structured program is strongly encouraged for these practitioners. Our goal is to provide accurate, timely quality care to our patients, physicians, and employees.
