Tina Dunlap, RN and Kristal Cansler, CNA were recently named Frye Regional Medical Center’s 2011 Nurse and Certified Nursing Assistant of the year following a vote among their peers and hospital staff.
In a ceremony honoring the two, and recognizing the many nominees, Chief Operating Officer Rich Ellis commented on Tina Dunlap, Nurse of the Year, saying, “Tina Dunlap exemplifies nursing as an art. She has been a devoted nurse at Frye for 30 years.”
Having always known she wanted to be a nurse, Dunlap was president of the Future Nurses of America Club locally and spoke at her graduation. She currently works on the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) in the hospital.
Kristal Cansler, CNA, of the Rehabilitation Unit at Frye, was named CNA for her “great compassion and expertise when caring for her patients,” said Vice President Carol Kammer.
“She has the respect and admiration of her coworkers and patients.”
Hospital peers raised nearly $800 voting for Frye’s RN and CNA of the year which will be used to apply towards a scholarship for a Frye employee to use toward a nursing degree.
