The Oncology Services Department at Frye Regional Medical Center was a recent recipient of the Through Healing Eyes, Pink Heals Tour Grant in the amount of $5,000. The grant funding will be utilized to individually assist oncology patients with transportation to their local medical appointments, treatments, or hospital and to assist with medications specifically related to their cancer diagnosis. Assistance will be based on individual eligibility.
The Pink Heals Tour-Hickory was coordinated by Darlene Huffman, a Hickory firefighter, who lost her mother to the battle of cancer. The tour is a collaborative community initiative to raise awareness and money for cancer patients through local non-profit organizations. All proceeds raised from the tour were given to Through Healing Eyes, Inc.
Katheryn Harlan, Founder & President of Through Healing Eyes (T.H.E.) commented, “What an honor and pleasure for T.H.E to be selected as beneficiary of the funds raised by the 2011 Pink Heals Tour visit to Hickory. We received over $17,000 from The Pink Heals Tour and have almost completed its distribution to deserving charities in the Unifour to help battle all cancers affecting women, men and children.”
Tina Watts, RN, MSN, Oncology Nurse Navigator with Frye, expressed thanks to Through Healing Eyes and the Pink Heals Tour for their generous grant. “Their commitment to helping oncology patients in our community is appreciated by those of us providing care for them, but, most importantly, by those who benefit from this funding.”
