Frye Regional Medical Center recognizes Breast Health Navigator Kimberly Allan Sherrill, RN, BSN for becoming a Certified Breast Care Nurse through the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation. Ms. Sherrill’s certification is for a five year term through December 2015.

The CBCN Examination is aimed at testing the knowledge necessary for the nurse to practice competently in breast care nursing, and the certification is a validation of an individual’s knowledge in breast care nursing.

“As a Nationally Accredited Program for Breast Centers, it’s important for Frye Regional Medical Center’s Breast Health Navigators to receive the utmost training and education in the area of breast health,” said Oncology Service Line Manager JoAnn Smith, MSN, RN, OCN. "A patient can know that we are here to assist and guide her through the maze of diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.”

Earlier in the year, Frye Regional Medical Center was granted a three-year/Full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.  During the survey process, the center must demonstrate compliance with standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease.  The standards include proficiency in the areas of: center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement.  A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients a full range of state-of-the-art services.

“Kim’s Certified Breast Care Nurse certification further enhances the quality care we strive to provide a breast cancer patient going through our Breast Health Navigator Program,” said Frye’s Chief Nursing Officer Lerryn Crocker, MSN, FNP-BC, CNS-BC.
