Caring for a loved one with cancer can be both rewarding and challenging. Today’s caregivers often have many duties that used to be handled in a hospital setting, or by health care providers. These duties can include helping the patient monitor medications, coordinating doctor visits and managing health insurance matters, in addition to handling everyday tasks and providing emotional support. Frye Regional Medical Center recognizes that there is a special need for all of us to help caregivers of cancer patients protect their health in order to have a more satisfying life and be better able to provide their loved one with the best care possible. That is why Frye is proud to offer “Feel Good Friday,” a new support group specifically for caregivers of cancer patients.
This quarterly support group will be held in Frye Regional Medical Center’s Cancer Support Center, located next to the hospital at 328 North Center Street. The first meeting will be held on November 2, and both caregivers and patients are invited to “leave cancer at the door” and enjoy manicures, chair massages and light refreshments.
Support group meetings are facilitated by Melissa Teague, LCSW, Oncology Social Worker, Kim Sherrill, RN, Breast Health Navigator, and Sandy Kennedy, RN, OCN, CHPN.
