--Hospital remains the only hospital in the state to receive the award--
Hickory, NC – For the second year in a row, Frye Regional Medical Center has been named a Distinguished Hospital by J.D. Power and Associates. This distinction acknowledges a strong commitment by Frye to provide “An Outstanding Inpatient Experience”. Frye is the only hospital in North Carolina to receive the recognition.
The service excellence distinction was determined by surveying a random sample of recently discharged patients from Frye on their perceptions of their hospital stay and comparing the results to the national benchmark established by the annual J.D. Power and Associates National Hospital Service Performance Study.
The telephone-based research conducted among Frye Regional Medical Center patients focuses on the five key drivers of patient satisfaction with their overall hospital experience. The drivers, which were identified in the national study, include: dignity and respect; speed and efficiency; comfort; information and communication; and emotional support.
Based on the rigorous standards of the national hospital service performance research, only 20 percent of the hospitals in the nation are expected to qualify for this distinction. Frye Regional Medical Center is among an elite class of hospitals.
“To receive this award for the second year in a row is extraordinary,” said Frye President and CEO Dennis Bruns. “I am proud of the remarkable accomplishments of our dedicated team of healthcare professionals. This is an incredible honor for the employees and medical staff of Frye.”
Frye Regional Medical Center exceeded its national benchmark target score for overall patient satisfaction by a significant margin. The hospital performed particularly well compared to the national study in the speed and efficiency with which the staff delivered care to their patients. The hospital received high ratings relative to the national study on the nurses’ promptness to the call button and the availability of the doctor.
Frye also performs well relative to the national study on providing information and communication to patients, especially in regard to clearly explaining how to manage their care after they left the hospital, and the nurses’ ability to explain their condition and/or treatment.
Additionally, patients were asked to rate their level of trust and confidence in the hospitals after their most recent stay. Among Frye patients, 65 percent indicate they have more or much more trust and confidence in the hospital after their most recent stay. Furthermore, Frye patients are more likely to experience increased trust and confidence in their hospital because of their experience, as compared to the national average.
Frye Regional Medical Center received this distinction by providing patients with a consistent, positive experience. The caregivers, physicians and administrative staff can be proud of their contribution to the care and health of their community. On a broader note, at a time when consumers are increasingly exerting influence over the delivery of their care and seeking credible resources to make well-informed decisions, being recognized by J.D. Power and Associates as a Distinguished Hospital enables Frye Regional and other top-performing hospitals to effectively communicate this outstanding accomplishment in the communities they serve.
Non-government, acute-care hospitals throughout the nation are eligible for the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital recognition. Distinction is valid for one year, after which the hospital may reapply for this recognition.
