Labor & Delivery
Our highly professional staff strives to give the highest quality of care to the mother and her family. Our large, comfortable birthing rooms contain advanced equipment while maintaining a relaxed home-like environment. In addition to the delivery of your infant, we provide various aspects of pre-delivery care such as IV hydration, non-stress testing, and screening for complications and pre-and post-surgical care. The unit features six spacious birthing rooms, two antepartum (testing) rooms, two cesarean section rooms, a recovery room, plus centralized monitoring.
Also included in the nursing staff at Frye are certified lactation consultants who, along with the staff nurses, provide assistance to mothers who choose to breastfeed their infants. Information is provided for establishing and maintaining a milk supply, pumping and storage of milk, breastfeeding assistance, and support groups. 5th Avenue Birthing Center features a lactation room that is utilized for the instruction of breastfeeding and offers a number of resources which may be beneficial to mothers.
The Pediatric Unit provides individualized care for children ages birth through 18 years. The ten bed unit is brightly decorated and maintains a family focus. Parents are encouraged to stay with their child and to take part in their recovery. The unit is staffed with RN's who are excellent with children and enjoy their work. All RN's are certified in Pediatric Advanced life Support and have ongoing education to keep them abreast of changes in their field. The staff works to help promote comprehensive, quality care for each child.
Our mission is to provide each infant with skilled, compassionate nursing care. Parents are supported with the education and encouragement needed to comfortably care for their baby at home. The Nursery care begins following delivery, through a stabilization period and remains available around the clock.
Parents have the option to "room in" with flexibility that meets their personal needs. Individual bedside instruction for parents by staff members is available 24 hours a day. From the newborn's first moments of life through the new family's hospital stay, Frye's nursery staff combine knowledge and skill to provide excellent newborn care.
The Intensive Care Nursery at Frye Regional Medical Center (Level II) is equipped to provide special care for premature, sick and/or infants with complications. Infant care is managed and performed by a combination of skilled staff, including Neonatologists, Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses and Respiratory Therapists. Infants who are referred and transported to Frye for special care may include premature infants, infants requiring pulmonary support/management, maternal/fetal complications, and infants requiring evaluation for alteration in body systems functions. Among the many services provided are laser surgery for retinopathy of prematurity and pediatric neurology.
Frye Regional Medical Center staff, neonatologists and nurse practitioners provide continued education through workshops, inservices, neonatal resuscitation and outreach education.
