Nuclear Medicine  (offered 7am-4pm, Monday-Friday)

For HIDA scans please do not eat or drink anything 6 hours prior to your exam. 

For thyroid scans, please do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your exam, do not take your thyroid medication (Cytomel for 2 weeks, Synthroid for 6 weeks, and no I.V. contrast received 6 weeks prior).

For Iodine 131 whole body scans, do not eat or drink anything after midnight and do not take any synthroids (if you are uncertain about this, consult your physician).

For gastric studies, do not eat or drink anything after midnight, do not take any antibiotics or Bismuth for 4 weeks, and do not take any proton pump inhibitors for 2 weeks.

For renal scans, please do not take medications known as beta blockers or ace inhibitors for 3 days, and drink plenty of water for 72 hours prior to your exam.

For all other nuclear medicine tests, no special preparations or instructions are required.
