Frye Regional Medical Center Offers Robotic Technology for Joint Replacement Surgery

February 21, 2019

(HICKORY, N.C., Feb. 20, 2019) – Frye Regional Medical Center (FRMC) today announced that it began offering robotic technology for joint replacement surgery in February, making it the first hospital in the area to utilize this advanced equipment to enhance patient care. Surgeons who are specially trained to use the new system will initially use it for total and partial knee replacement procedures but eventually the technology will be used for hip replacements as well.

“The new robotic surgical system helps our orthopedic surgeons ensure the precise positioning and placement of the prosthetic joint during surgery,” said Faren Campbell, surgical services director at FRMC. “We are excited to bring this technology to Frye Regional and further enhance the level of quality and safety we provide our patients.”

The robotic technology ensures an extra layer of precision and accuracy, and is designed to enable optimal implant placement for better patient outcomes.

“Patients who undergo joint replacement surgery often delay it until the pain is unbearable and affects their daily activities and quality of life,” said Campbell. “Having access to innovative robotic technology close to home is a great reason to begin taking steps now to replace a knee or other joint before additional damage is done.”

To learn more about robotic-assisted joint replacement and non-surgical ways to manage joint pain, patients can attend a free seminar at the Hickory Foundation YMCA’s C.O. Miller Teen Center with Nurse Navigator Nikol Maynor on Tuesday, March 19 at noon. Call 828.315.3391 or register online
