Frye Regional Medical Center Highlights Advances in Heart Care with Community Education

October 01, 2025

Frye Regional Medical Center, a Duke Lifepoint hospital and Duke Health affiliate in Heart, is expanding awareness of advanced cardiac procedures through ongoing education efforts with community partners. The most recent session included Watauga County Rescue Squad and Watauga Emergency Services and highlighted transcatheter aortic valve replacement, or TAVR, a minimally invasive alternative to open-heart surgery for patients with severe aortic stenosis.

TAVR allows physicians to replace a diseased aortic valve using a catheter instead of opening the chest. For eligible patients, this means shorter recovery times, fewer complications and improved quality of life. Frye Regional Heart Center is among a select number of centers in the region offering this advanced treatment.

Frye Regional Medical Center is proud to be a Duke Health affiliate in Heart, bringing nationally recognized cardiovascular expertise to Catawba and surrounding counties. Through this collaboration, patients benefit from advanced education for care providers from Duke Heart Center’s leading specialists on cardiovascular clinical practice guidelines.

“At Frye Regional, we are committed to cardiac excellence and compassionate care for our community,” said Philip Greene, MD, CEO of Frye Regional Medical Center. “We are grateful for our partnerships in Watauga County and for their dedication to education and excellence in care.”

In addition to TAVR, Frye Regional Heart Center offers mitral and tricuspid valve repair, surgical aortic valve replacement and other advanced cardiac procedures. Together with partners like Watauga County Rescue Squad and Watauga County EMS, Frye Regional continues to expand access to high-quality cardiovascular care in western North Carolina.
