Frye Regional Medical Center Adds New Radiation Therapy Technology

February 09, 2026

Frye Regional Medical Center, a Duke LifePoint hospital, has launched a new linear accelerator as part of a $4.1 million investment in cancer care.

The system delivers high-dose radiation therapy with exceptional accuracy and speed, allowing clinicians to use leading-edge techniques such as image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). The system also supports a radiosurgery solution that enhances precision and efficiency for select brain treatments. Together, these approaches help target tumors while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue – supporting improved patient outcomes, reduced side effects and shorter treatment times.

“The unveiling of this technology exemplifies our commitment to ensuring patients receive high-quality cancer care in our community,” said Philip Greene, MD, chief executive officer of Frye Regional Medical Center. “The linear accelerator represents a major advancement in our ability to deliver precise, effective cancer treatment while enhancing the patient experience.”

This technology supports treatment for a wide range of cancers, including breast, lung, prostate, head and neck, gynecologic and brain cancers. It also enables additional options such as radiotherapy and gated approaches to account for tumor motion during treatment.

In addition to cancer care, the technology supports emerging treatment options for certain non-cancerous conditions, such as osteoarthritis.

Radiation therapy services are delivered by a multidisciplinary team, including board-certified radiation oncologists, radiation therapists and specialists such as a medical dosimetrist and medical physicist who help design individualized treatment plans. The team provides compassionate, patient-centered care and helps guide patients and families through every step of treatment.
