Frye Regional Medical Center Announces Q1 DAISY Award Honorees
April 09, 2026
Frye Regional Medical Center, a Duke LifePoint hospital, proudly announces its first-quarter 2026 DAISY Award recipients, honoring exceptional nurses whose compassion, professionalism and commitment to excellence make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients, families and colleagues.
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses® is an international recognition created by the DAISY Foundation to celebrate the skillful and compassionate care nurses provide to patients and families. The award recognizes nurses who go above and beyond to deliver exceptional care during some of life’s most challenging moments.
This quarter, Frye Regional recognizes two nurses for their outstanding contributions to patient care: Kimberly Eckard and Matthew Rhyne.
“Each DAISY nomination tells a meaningful story of compassion, excellence and human connection,” said Bridget Denzik, DNP, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, chief nursing officer at Frye Regional Medical Center. “Together, these stories reflect the extraordinary care our nurses provide every day and the profound impact they have on patients, families and one another.”
Each nomination’s story paints a picture of the incredible care these nurses bring to their work:
Kimberly Eckard, Float Pool RN, BSN, Alexander County resident, was named the February DAISY Award recipient for extraordinary nursing, honoring her leadership, compassion and dedication to patient-centered care. A patient commended Eckard for her calm presence, knowledge and compassionate approach during a difficult hospitalization. After arriving at Frye Regional unexpectedly ill, the patient shared that Eckard provided steady support throughout multiple days of testing, IVs, new medications and procedures. By taking time to explain each step of care, Kimberly helped the patient feel informed, supported and confident in the care being provided. The patient expressed gratitude for Eckard’s attentiveness and professionalism, noting the meaningful difference her care made during the experience.
Matthew Rhyne, RN, BSN, Caldwell County resident, was recognized as the March DAISY Award recipient for being a pivotal source of support, comfort and strength throughout a patient’s care journey. A patient’s family shared that during a time of deep loss, Rhyne brought comfort through his kindness and presence. He patiently listened and supported a grieving family member and provided compassionate care throughout the stay. Knowing Rhyne’s care was consistently present offered reassurance, and his heartfelt condolences at discharge left a lasting impression.
The DAISY Award is presented monthly in front of the nurse’s family and colleagues. Each honoree receives a certificate of recognition, a hand-carved sculpture titled A Healer’s Touch from the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe and a floral arrangement of daisies. In addition, and following the DAISY tradition, recipients receive cinnamon rolls to share with their department and half a dozen to take home.
Frye Regional is proud to celebrate these nurses and nurse leaders whose dedication and compassion reflect the organization’s mission of making communities healthier®. To nominate a nurse and share a personal patient experience to receive the DAISY Award, visit FryeMedCtr.com/daisy-award.
