Frye Regional Earns National Heart Failure Recognition
July 16, 2026
Frye Regional Medical Center, a Duke LifePoint hospital and Duke Health Affiliate in Heart, has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Heart Failure Gold quality achievement award for the 11th consecutive year, recognizing the hospital’s commitment to following evidence-based care for patients with heart failure.
The recognition reflects Frye Regional’s ongoing focus on improving patient outcomes, reducing readmissions and helping patients spend more healthy days at home.
Advancing heart failure care
According to the American Heart Association’s 2026 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Report, approximately 6.7 million U.S. adults are living with heart failure, a number expected to increase to more than 8.7 million by 2030. While heart failure is a chronic condition, timely treatment, medication management, patient education and lifestyle modifications can help individuals live longer and healthier lives.
The Get With The Guidelines - Heart Failure award recognizes hospitals that consistently follow the most current, evidence-based treatment guidelines as outlined by the American Heart Association. Participating hospitals demonstrate sustained performance in delivering guideline-directed care and providing patients with the tools and education to manage their condition after discharge.
“Achieving this recognition for 11 consecutive years reflects the dedication of our physicians, nurses and cardiovascular care teams,” said Lindy White, MBA, FABC, chief executive officer of Frye Regional Medical Center. “Our team’s commitment to continuously improving care helps ensure patients receive the right treatment at the right time while supporting better outcomes long after they leave the hospital.”
Each year, participating hospitals must meet rigorous performance standards to qualify for recognition.
“We are proud to recognize the leadership and dedicated care teams at Frye Regional for their strong commitment to improving care for people living with heart failure,” said Sabra Lewsey, M.D., MPH, volunteer chair of the American Heart Association Heart Failure System of Care Advisory Group. “Hospitals that participate in Get With The Guidelines - Heart Failure, a 20-year flagship quality improvement program, often achieve better patient outcomes, including fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates — benefiting patients, families, communities and health care systems alike.”
Additional quality distinctions
In addition to the Gold award, Frye Regional earned the American Heart Association’s Target: Heart FailureSM Optimal designation, which recognizes hospitals that meet specific performance measures related to medication adherence, early follow-up care, care coordination and patient education. Hospitals receiving the Optimal designation achieve at least 50% defect-free care, helping reduce readmissions and support improved quality of life for patients living with heart failure.
The hospital also received the American Heart Association’s Target: Type 2 Diabetes™ Honor Roll award, recognizing its commitment to ensuring hospitalized patients with Type 2 diabetes receive the latest evidence-based care when hospitalized for heart disease or stroke.
National recognized heart program
Beyond the American Heart Association awards, Frye Regional recently earned HeartCARE Center™ National Distinction of Excellence from the American College of Cardiology for the sixth consecutive year.
The Frye Regional Heart Center offers advanced cardiovascular services, including mitral and tricuspid valve repair, surgical aortic valve replacement, other structural heart interventions and comprehensive heart failure care.
