Frye Regional Medical Center, a Duke LifePoint hospital, announces that neurosurgeon Dr. Barry Kaplan has performed his 200th robotic-assisted spine surgery, marking a significant milestone in the hospital’s commitment to advanced surgical technology and patient-centered care.

The advanced robotic-assisted surgical technology used at Frye Regional combines real-time imaging, advanced navigation and robotic guidance to help surgeons perform spine and cranial procedures with greater precision. The technology allows surgeons to plan and execute procedures based on each patient’s unique anatomy.

Since introducing robotic-assisted surgical technology in 2024, Dr. Kaplan has incorporated this technology into a wide range of spinal procedures and selected cranial procedures, helping patients benefit from greater surgical accuracy, smaller incisions, less tissue disruption and the potential for faster recovery.

“Reaching this milestone reflects our commitment to providing patients with advanced neurosurgical care close to home,” said Dr. Kaplan. “Our goal is to combine surgical planning and precision, allowing us to deliver highly personalized treatment while helping patients recover more quickly and return to the activities they enjoy.”

Dr. Kaplan is a board-certified neurosurgeon with extensive experience treating disorders affecting the brain, spine and nervous system, including degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, herniated discs, spinal deformities and other complex spine and cranial conditions.

“This milestone reflects Dr. Kaplan’s dedication to innovation and excellence in patient care,” said Lindy White, MBA, FABC, chief executive officer of Frye Regional Medical Center. “By investing in advanced technologies and specialized services, Frye Regional continues to expand access to leading-edge neurosurgical care while helping improve outcomes for patients across our region.”

Frye Regional’s neurosurgical program utilizes advanced surgical technology to support spine and selected cranial procedures. Patients also benefit from comprehensive diagnostic, surgical and rehabilitation services for neck and back conditions.
