Frye Regional Earns National Recognition for Cardiac Arrest Care

August 18, 2026

Frye Regional Medical Center, a Duke LifePoint hospital and Duke Health Affiliate in Heart, has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Resuscitation Silver quality achievement award for its commitment to delivering guideline-based care for patients who experience cardiac arrest while hospitalized.

Improving outcomes for patients experiencing in-hospital cardiac arrest According to the American Heart Association’s 2026 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Report, about one in four adults who experience in-hospital cardiac arrest survive to hospital discharge. While survival has improved over time and is substantially higher than survival after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, opportunities remain to strengthen hospital resuscitation systems and improve outcomes for more patients.

The Get With The Guidelines - Resuscitation program helps hospitals improve outcomes for patients who experience in-hospital cardiac arrest by consistently following the most current, science-based treatment guidelines from the American Heart Association. These guidelines address patient safety protocols, rapid medical emergency team response, high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and post-resuscitation care.

“Frye Regional Medical Center is committed to improving patient outcomes by adhering to the latest resuscitation guidelines,” said Lindy White, MBA, FABC, chief executive officer of Frye Regional Medical Center. “Get With The Guidelines helps our teams put proven science into practice every day, helping improve outcomes and increase survival for patients who experience cardiac arrest. Our ultimate goal is to help more people in our communities live longer, healthier lives.”

Frye Regional earned the Silver award by meeting specific quality measures related to the treatment of adult patients who experience cardiac arrest while hospitalized.

“We are pleased to recognize Frye Regional for its commitment to following the guidelines for in-hospital cardiac arrest,” said Paul Chan, M.D., MSc, volunteer chair of the American Heart Association Resuscitation System of Care Advisory Group. “Hospitals that participate in Get With The Guidelines often achieve better patient outcomes and improved survival rates — a meaningful win for health care systems, families and communities.”

Additional quality distinctions

In addition to the Silver award, Frye Regional is also recognized with the American Heart Association’s Target: CPR Award, recognizing its commitment to monitoring and delivering high-quality CPR during Code Blue events. Consistent, high-quality CPR is a critical component of improving survival following cardiac arrest.

Frye Regional also received the American Heart Association’s Target: Survival Award, which recognizes hospitals demonstrating strong survival outcomes following in-hospital cardiac arrest. The measure accounts for multiple factors that can influence survival, including cardiac arrest rhythm, location of the arrest within the hospital and severity of illness. Hospitals that receive the distinction have a survival rate that ranks above 60% of hospitals nationwide participating in the Get With The Guidelines - Resuscitation registry.

Nationally recognized cardiology program

The recognition reflects Frye Regional's continued commitment to delivering high-quality cardiovascular care and improving outcomes for patients across the region. The hospital recently earned HeartCARE Center™ National Distinction of Excellence from the American College of Cardiology for the sixth consecutive year and the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Heart Failure Gold quality achievement award for the 11th consecutive year.

The Frye Regional Heart Center offers advanced cardiovascular services, including mitral and tricuspid valve repair, surgical aortic valve replacement, structural heart interventions and comprehensive heart failure care. As a Duke Health Affiliate in Heart, Frye Regional benefits from the most current training and staff education when it comes to heart care.
