May 14, 2024
HICKORY, NC (May 14, 2024) – Frye Regional Medical Center recently announced that Maureen “Moe” McMahon, MS, CCC-SLP, has been recognized as the facility’s 2024 Mercy Award winner. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of Lifepoint Health’s facilities who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.
Established in 2001, the Mercy Award is an annual recognition program that honors the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, Lifepoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is considered the highest honor a Lifepoint employee can receive.
“At Frye Regional, we are committed to advancing Lifepoint’s mission of making communities healthier, and our devoted team members are critical to this work – especially Moe,” said Philip Greene, MD, CEO of Frye Regional. “We are so proud to recognize her positive contributions to improving the overall health of our patients, supporting their families, and serving our community. Moe always goes the extra mile to meet any need that may arise and is a true champion of our caring culture at Frye Regional.”
Moe has served in various capacities within Frye Regional including as a speech pathologist, rehabilitation services manager and now as Director of Rehabilitation Services. There are dozens of stories detailing Moe’s compassion for patients and community members.
From assisting visitors who needed a hand getting around the hospital, to donating to patients who were returning to difficult home situations, Moe goes above and beyond to ensure every patient she encounters is well taken care of even after they leave the facility.
Moe’s servant-leader mindset fosters a culture of compassion, empathy and excellence throughout her departments. Outside of her duties as Director of Rehabilitation Services, Moe serves as the administrative officer of Frye Regional’s Associate Council. Fueled by her expertise and passion, the council has made tremendous strides in shaping the culture of Frye Regional’s workplace by establishing numerous employee engagement events, including the annual employee milestone banquet, Hospital Week events and uniform sales.
“I am sincerely humbled to have been named the 2024 Lifepoint Mercy Award winner for Frye Regional Medical Center,” said McMahon. “Serving our patients, staff, and our Hickory community over these past 39 years, has been a source of great joy and pride for both me and my family. I am lifted up every day by those around me who inspire, challenge and love me.”
Moe embodies the values of the Mercy Award in every aspect of her work, and her contributions have made a profound difference in the lives of our patients, our hospital and our community. There isn’t just one single standout story of Moe’s mercifulness, there are many moments and glimpses of compassion, because she truly lives a merciful life and puts others needs before hers.
Each facility winner, including Moe, will be considered for Lifepoint’s 2024 companywide Mercy Award. The companywide winner will be announced this summer and honored during a ceremony in Nashville, Tenn., in August.
